past/present "luxury"

So, as we talked in class;
Does it matter on which part of the timeline that we focus onto as to what is considered to be luxury?

shirley, the key here is to describe the conditions / context of the moment which defines the luxury. the goal to this exercise is for you to speculate several definitions of luxury and extract supporting evidence in a variety of formats.

Following these comments and also considering certain aspects of the Delanda reading, you might also consider how luxury itself can be thought of in intensive and extensive terms and map changes in luxury intensity or status depending on changes in time, context, physical configuration, etc. At what point does an purely functionally oriented item begin to acquire a degree of luxury? Within what user group and in what market? How does the article as well as its degree of luxury change over time? And does the context that it achieves luxury status within change as well?
